The Quintessential ToothBrush
Nothing was working. Absolutely nothing. He was lying in bed but was awake the whole night. His mind was wondering , wondering where everything went wrong. They were such a lovely romantic couple. She was what everyone would crave, even die for. Breathtaking Beauty , intelligence , humbleness and exactly the right amount of humour, there was no virtue which she was devoid of. He had observed that even his friends were jealous of him. This was how attractive her personality was.
But suddenly, what seemed like 'the' perfect love story had taken a steep downhill tumble. They ended up arguing on even the most trivial of issues. And the clear skies now looked gloomy. He felt exhausted by every means.
But he couldn't even think of losing her. She was his sweetheart, his lucky charm. He had been in relationships before, but nowhere was he involved such an engaging manner.
Heck . Stop thinking about all this , he told his mind which he knew would not stop traumatising him.
But he had some sanity left in him , an important meeting was lined up at 9. He looked at the watch. It just ticked 7:30.
He finally rose from his bed, and stepped into his bathroom. Took his toothbrush in one hand and his favourite Meswak in the other. When he was done , he put the brush back into it's holder . He felt numb for a moment. For the first time in his life he thought of thinking about that stupid toothbrush holder.
Maybe because of the turmoil in his life, he tried of seeking solace somewhere. Anywhere.
Every month the holder would have a different brush. The former brush had to depart, make way for a new one . Why?
Did it have anything to do with the holder ?
Was it because the holder was covered in dust, was not that fancy, and the brush no longer enjoyed being in it?
No
It was because the brush had its pecks broken. It wasn't the same brush anymore. It was worn out. And accept it or not, it made the holder look unappealing. It had to go.
So, was the brush not missed ?
It surely was. It would be a lie to say otherwise. When we get habitual of things, we cannot imagine our world without them. And when they depart, We miss everything that they brought with them : the good, the bad and the ugly.
But.........
A new brush takes its place.
It always does.
After it had finally dawned on him, Karan looked into the mirror. He found something different today. His eyes had that lost shine again and he looked full of purpose, something that was missing for the last one month. He knew it wasn't as easy as the toothbrush holder , but he had the solution to his problems. He would try to replace those worn out pecks, but if he failed to do so, he would search for a new shiny brush.
Having a brush is important ,right? Afterall, it stinks if you don't brush your teeth.
He could focus now, on his 9'o clock meeting.
And beyond.
All because of his trusted old friend, the toothbrush holder.
